1. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a great for kids and families with everything from flowers, trees, trails, playgrounds, and plenty of room to bring your own chairs or picnic blanket! It is also a great date night spot. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy nice conversation or a picnic.
2. Zilker Botanical Garden
With Austin's gorgeous skyline in the background, the Zilker Botanical Garden is a small gem nestled quietly near the city. It offers a place for peaceful and easy walking in silence and a place to reflect. It is great with the one you love...or a small group.
3. Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail
It is difficult to beleive that such a wonderful place as Barton Creek Greenbelt exisits only few minutes drive from Austin's city center. With great hiking trails for all ages (and dogs), a walk along the river allows you to enjoy nature, Sculpture Falls (a beautiful waterfall), and some people-watching too.
4. Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park
An outstanding park, Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park is here for those who enjoy walking, light hiking, or trail cycling. There is a neat little disc golf course, a small kiddie playground, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, as well was a place for volleyball and soccer. It is a beautiful park with clean restrooms.
5. Goat Cave Karst Nature Preserve
This nature preserve has easy-to-follow trail and three caves to visit. One is closed while two have a small crawl space that you can venture into. We're told it is a little hard to find the entrance but keep trying. It will be worth it.
6. Bauerle Ranch Park
Bauerle Ranch Park at Slaughter Creek is located in South Austin. Its a great place for running, hiking and mountain biking. With over three miles of trails, it is tucked in-between the neighborhoods of HillCrest, Estates of Bauerle Ranch, and Shady Hollow with neighborhood access to the well-marked trails. Beautiful wildlife to enjoy including birds, rabbits, squirrels and deer and during the right seasons, the wildflowers are amazing.
