6 Fun Things To Do In Elgin Texas
The small town of Elgin is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Texas. With over 6,000 people, its rich history and beautiful scenery attract 1.5 million visitors every year. Here are six fun things you can try during your visit.
1. Elgin Memorial Park
Elgin Memorial Park is located at 1127 North Main Street (Highway 95 North and Main Street/Loop 109). The park is approximately 26 acres with hundreds of elm trees and green grass, a small concession stand, restrooms, two sand volleyball courts, three tennis courts, horse shoe pits, one playground, covered and uncovered picnic tables, barbecue grills, and scattered park benches. There is also a large covered pavilion that is popular for parties and events and a covered picnic area for smaller gatherings. The playscape was made possible by a grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority. It is the site for the Annual Western Days Festival, Firemen’s Bar-B-Q Cook-Off, Market Days, and many other programs and activities. Elgin softball and baseball fields are adjacent to this park. Museum volunteers and staff are available to assist with research including genealogy questions. The building was restored in 2002. Operated by the Elgin Historical Association, the museum is open from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Source
3. Evergreen Farms Christmas Tree
Elgin’s farm on Monkey Road, Evergreen Farms, became a reality in 1989 when Mike and Beth Walterscheidt bought the property with the intention of establishing a high-quality family farm for Central Texans. The first trees were harvested in 1996 and the Pumpkin Hunt began in 2001. Since then, the farm has grown to hosting thousands of Central Texans during the Pumpkin Hunt and tree harvesting seasons.
